Guest Picks: 17-11

Monthly Picks: 58-45
Yearly Picks: 480-414

Here are today's picks:

Rockies (Marquez) vs Cubs (Montgomery)

Mike Montgomery is making his first start for the Cubs after spending the first part of the year in the bullpen. He was a starter last year for the Mariners and he pitched effectively when he was in the rotation. If this was at Coors Field I could consider picking Marquez and the Rockies. Since it is at Wrigley I am going with the Cubs.

Pick: Cubs

Marlins (Worley) vs Pirates (Glasnow)

I like the way the Marlins are hitting right now. I do not like the way Tyler Glasnow is pitching. I think the Marlins will get to Glasnow early and even though Worley will allow a fair share of runs himself, the Marlins offense will carry the team to victory.

Pick: Marlins

Rangers (Cashner) vs Nationals (Roark)

Tanner Roark is pitching, and it is Tanner Roark Bobblehead night at Nationals Park. I can’t in good conscious pick against a person on his own bobblehead night. It is also surprising to me that with all the start the Nationals have that Tanner Roark has his own bobblehead night but I digress. Nationals win.

Pick: Nationals

Athletics (Triggs) vs Rays (Cobb)

This is already the 18th time the Rays have been at .500 in the first 62 games of the season. I don’t know why but I find that hilarious. Today they will be back to a game under .50 after Triggs and the Athletics get the win. I will say this, no matter what the result is the of the game today I will be picking the other result tomorrow.

Pick: Athletics

Tigers (Zimmermann) vs Red Sox (Johnson)

Brian Johnson has made two spot starts for the Red Sox this year and is 2-0. Jordan Zimmermann can not get out of his own way and still gives up way too many home runs. Going against an offense as potent as the Red Sox will be a problem for Zimmermann, who will give up a couple more gopher balls and get the loss today.

Pick: Red Sox

White Sox (Gonzalez) vs Indians (Kluber)

Cory Kluber was outstanding his last time out for the Indians. Now he gets to face a team he has already shutout once this season. This is an easy pick for me. Kluber continues that streak and leads the Indians to victory.

Pick: Indians

Mets (Harvey) vs Braves (Teheran)

Both of these pitchers have been underwhelming this season. Actually both of these pitchers have been underwhelming the past few seasons. The talent is there for both of them but they always get in their own way. Harvey more so. I think that Teheran and the Braves get the better of Harvey and the Mets today.

Pick: Braves

Orioles (Bundy) vs Yankees (Montgomery)

Two Montgomery’s starting on the same day. I think it would be great if the Yankees and Cubs met in the World Series and the two Montgomery’s went at each other. Alas that probably will not happen as the Cubs’ Montgomery is usually a reliever, but hey a guy can hope. As far as the two teams in this series the home team usually wins when they play each other. That would be the Yankees today.

Pick: Yankees

Angels (Shoemaker) vs Astros (Peacock)

The Astros have an embarrassment of riches. They have to find a spot starter today, so let’s just bring up a guy who is 3-0 with an ERA of 2.30 in his three starts this year. Even when they need to go to the Minor Leagues they are finding guys that can pitch. They get yet another win today and get to 44-18 (!!)

Pick: Astros

Phillies (Hellickson) vs Cardinals (Wacha)

A week ago the Cardinals were a game over 500 and sitting in second place in the N.L Central. Today they are six games under .500 and in fourth place. That is what a seven game losing streak will do to you. Today they might get a break as they face the Phillies, a team that is going through a rough stretch as well. I am going to take the Cardinals to get back into the win column today and beat the Phillies.

Pick: Cardinals

Brewers (Davies) vs Diamondbacks (Delgado)

These teams are two of the biggest surprises in the National League. The Brewers lead the Central and the Diamondbacks are just two games out in the West. The Diamondbacks are doing it behind the best home record in the majors. This game is played in the desert. Going to go with the snakes to win game one of this series.

Pick: Diamondbacks

Reds (Garrett) vs Dodgers (Hill)

I don’t care how will the Reds bats are going right now I am not going to pick them to win this game. Amir Garrett against the Dodgers? I’ll be surprised if he makes it past the fourth inning. Dodgers put the hurt on the Reds today and get the win.

Pick: Dodgers

Royals (Skoglund) vs Padres (Chacin)

First one to two runs wins this game. I know both pitchers aren’t great, but both offenses are even worse. I’m not going to put a lot of thought in this game. I am going to go with the Padres, who I think are playing a little better right now and are at home.

Pick: Padres

Twins (Santana) vs Giants (Moore)

Ervin Santana is still pitching well, and is primed to make the all-star team. The Giants are still playing like shit and are fighting the Padres to stay out of the N.L West basement. I like the Twins in this one.

Pick: Twins

Blue Jays (Biagini) vs Mariners (Gaviglio)

As a Mariners fan I hate it when the Blue Jays come to town. Since the Mariners are so close in proximity to the Great White North, Safeco Field is usually packed with Blue Jays fans. This weekend will be no different. Despite all of that I think the Mariners are going to win today. Not a strong feeling, but a feeling none the less.

Pick: Mariners
