Countdown to College Football; Day 78: Central Michigan

On this Thursday, we look at a team who the past three seasons have played in bowl games I didn't even know existed.

School: Central Michigan

Mascot: Chippewas

Fight Song: Hear Us Now

Head Coach: John Bonamego (13-13)

Best Place to Eat on Campus:

I was distressed when the internet informed me that the best place to eat in Mount Pleasant was the local Taco Bell, closely followed by the Arby's.  Luckily I persevered and found Jon's Country Burgers, an institution since 1957. It's a drive in burger joint, a fad that left us too soon.

Greatest Program Moment:

Central Michigan football has only been around since the 70's and the list of great moments is short.  In 2009, "Champion of Life" Butch Jones led the team to an 11-2 season and a bowl victory.   I hate to succumb to recency bias, but the below is the likely winner.

Current State of the Program:

Central Michigan has been a launching pad for coaches to get into bigger jobs multiple times, but it appears they now have a coach who will be there as long as they will have him.  John Bonamego is a CMU alum and is in his dream job.  The team has competitive largely for the last decade, but it remains to be seen if Bonamego can compete at a conference championship level.
