Monthly Picks: 40-36
Yearly Picks: 462-405

Here are today's picks:

Nationals (Strasburg) vs Dodgers (Kershaw)

What a pitching matchup this is going to be. Hard to believe that this is the first time these two pitchers have faced each other. If Strasburg was a lefty I would definitely pick him to bea the Dodgers. Since he is a righty I think I am going to go with Kershaw and the Dodgers to get the win. I think it will be 2-1 Dodgers.

Pick: Dodgers

Indians (Bauer) vs Rockies (Freeland)

Trevor Bauer started for the Indians on Sunday, but his outing was cut short due to rain. Now he is pitching on two days rest, although he only threw 30 pitches in his last start so he should still be fresh. The bigger issue for Bauer is pitching in the thin air in Colorado. I think the ball will fly and the Rockies will win today.

Pick: Rockies

Blue Jays (Lieriano) vs Athletics (Cotton)

Two days ago the Blue Jays were just one game under .500 and facing the team with the worst record in the American League. After two straight losses to Oakland, they are now three games under .500 and trying to salvage one game in this series. I have picked the Blue Jays to win both games and have been wrong both time. I am going with them a third time here. Don’t make me regret it Toronto.

Pick: Blue Jays

Pirates (Kuhl) vs Orioles (Miley)

The Orioles send Wade Miley to the mound looking for the sweep of the Pirates in this brief two game series. The Pirates are countering with Chad Kuhl, a man who should not be in a major league rotation. Miley has been a good pitcher this year for the Orioles. That will contine today.

Pick: Orioles

Red Sox (Porcello) vs Yankees (Sabathia)

These pitchers have a similar ERA. Porcello is 4.24 and Sabathia is 4.12. Porcello’s record is 3-7 while Sabathia’s is 6-2. The difference is the Yankees score runs for Sabathia. The Red Sox do not do the same for Rick Porcello. That is why I am picking the Yankees to win.

Pick: Yankees

Angels (Meyer) vs Tigers (Farmer)

I have seen Alex Meyer pitch in person. I don’t know how he has won two games in the big leagues. I don’t think he gets his third today.

Pick: Tigers

Cardinals (Lynn) vs Reds (Arroyo)

The last time the Cardinals were undr .500 at this point in the season was a decade ago. They are 5-15 in their last 20 games. These are not the St. Louis Cardinals we are used too. They get a break today in facing Bronson Arroyo. The Cardinals will make it 6 out of 21 after they get the win today.

Pick: Cardinals

White Sox (Pelfrey) vs Rays (Faria)

The Rays have lost four games in a row, scoring only nine runs in those four games, and now are sending a pitcher making his Major League debut. No thank you. I am staying away from Tampa Bay today and will be picking Pelfrey and the White Sox to get the win.

Pick: White Sox

Phillies (Eickhoff) vs Braves (Foltynewicz)

Jerad Eickhoff has not gotten a win this year. This might be is best chance to do it, against a Braves team that is reeling right now. The Phillies have won the first two games in this series, and are looking for their second consecutive series win. They might get that series win, but it won’t be today. Braves win and Eickhoff is still winless.

Pick: Braves

Marlins (Urena) vs Cubs (Lackey)

I am going to do it! I am going to take the plunge and pick John Lackey to win a game. It feels kind of dirty, but I am picking with my head here. Cubs win.

Pick: Cubs

Mets (Wheeler) vs Rangers (Darvish)

Yu Darvish has not pitched like the Yu Darvish of old this year. He hasn’t been bad by any stretch of the imagination, but he hasn’t been his usual self either. I think today we will see a vintage Darvish start. Double digit strikeouts, two runs or fewer, and win over the Mets.

Pick: Mets

Giants (Blach) vs Brewers (Nelson)

The Giants have been such a colossal disappointment this year that I feel for their fans. As much as you can feel for fans of a team that has won three World Series titles this decade anyways. Which is not actually at all. Screw you San Francisco, I hope your summer of discontent continues.

Pick: Brewers

Astros (Keuchel) vs Royals (Vargas)

Finally a worthy adversary for Dallas Keuchel…. Maybe not. Keuchel becomes the first double digit winner in baseball.

Pick: Astros

Padres (Perdomo) vs Diamondbacks (Greinke)

Greinke is 9-2 in his career against the Padres. Luis Perdomo has one win in his major League career. I think you know where I am going with this.

Pick: Diamondbacks

Twins (Mejia) vs Mariners (Gallardo)

This is a tough one. The Mariners are hot right now but Yovanni Gallardo isn’t. He has their one loss in the last nine games. Go with the team that is hot or the pitcher that is not. The old saying is “momentum is only as good as the next days starting pitcher.” That means a win for Minnesota.

Pick: Twins
