June Today (4th), 2017 Picks:

Yankees (Severino) vs Blue Jays (Stroman)

The Yankees hit four home runs hit in the 8th inning of their game yesterday against Toronto. The Yankees offense is white hot right now, but today they face a real test in Marcus Stroman. I think that Stroman will contain the Yankees bats enough today and will get the win and get Toronto to just one game under .500.

Pick: Blue Jays

White Sox (Holmberg) vs Tigers (Verlander)

Justin Verlander has a very good career record against the White Sox, and has already beaten them once this year. I know that he has struggled in 2017 in comparison to his 2016 renaissance, but I think that today we will see vintage Verlander. He will lead the Tigers to victory.

Pick: Tigers

Braves (Teheran) vs Reds (Garrett)

Amir Garrett makes his return from the disabled list for the Reds today. I don’t think that is a good thing for Cincinnati. Before hitting the disabled list he wasn’t very good. He is going against the “ace” of the Braves staff, and while Julio Teheran isn’t very good either, I think he will be good enough to get the win today.

Pick: Braves

Pirates (Williams) vs Mets (Pill)

Both of these pitchers are right handed rookies who rarely light up the radar gun. They are effective based on location, not velocity. This game will come down to who hits their spots the most. Based on what I have seen from Trevor Williams so far I am going to go with the Pirates rookie.

Pick: Pirates

Diamondbacks (Shipley) vs Marlins (Worley)

Well done Edinson Volquez. One start after getting his first win of 2017, Volquez fires a no hitter against a good Diamondbacks lineup. I know that I picked him to lose, but I am still happy for him. In the game today the Diamondbacks will get revenge. I am not saying Braden Shipley will throw a no hitter, but the Diamondbacks will win the game.

Pick: Diamondbacks

Red Sox (Sale) vs Orioles (Tillman)

Chris Sale has won five decisions in a row. I see no reason to pick against him today.

Pick: Red Sox

Giants (Moore) vs Rays (Hellickson)

The Phillies bats finally came to life yesterday, and it was a welcome sight after being dormant the entire month of May. Now Philadelphia sends Hellickson to the mound to try and win their first series since the middle of April. I think he will get it done for them.

Pick: Phillies

Dodgers (Maeda) vs Brewers (Davies)

Kenta Maeda has not made it past the fifth inning in any of his last three starts. He has been relying on the Dodger bullpen to help him as he still tries to recover from a hamstring injury that landed him on the disabled list last month. Today will be more of the same. Maeda will give them five and then hand it off to the bullpen who will lead the Dodgers to a sweep of Milwaukee.

Pick: Brewers

Indians (Bauer) vs Royals (Skoglund)

Trevor Bauer is coming off one of the best starts of his career, a game in which he struck out 14 batters and went 8 innings against the Oakland Athletics. Now he is facing a Royals offense that is improving, but still not very good. Bauer gets the win and another double digit strikeout performance in this one.

Pick: Indians

Astros (Peacock) vs Rangers (Perez)

The Astros have won 10 games in a row and have already won 40 games as we reach the 1/3 mark in the season. They have a 13 game lead on the rest of the American League West already! Even though it may not feel like it, I think the Astros might lose a game again at some point. I am going to say that game is today.

Pick: Rangers

Twins (Berrios) vs Angels (Nolasco)

Anyone who reads this blog knows how high I am on Jose Berrios. That feeling has not changed. I am going with the kid with the electric stuff over one of the most average pitchers in baseball.

Pick: Twins

Nationals (Roark) vs Athletics (Gray)

Bryce Harper is set to return from his suspension today, and the Nationals will send Tanner Roark to the mound to try and take the series from the Athletics. Roark has been pitching well in his last two starts and that will continue today. Roark will outpitch Sonny Gray and will get the win for Washington today.

Pick: Nationals

Rays (Ramirez) vs Mariners (Miranda)

One could argue that Ariel Miranda has been the most consistent pitcher for the Mariners this year. Miranda and Yovanni Gallardo are the only two pitchers that have taken their turn every time, and he is vastly superior to Gallardo. Not bad for a pitcher that wasn’t supposed to be in the opening day rotation. He continues to pitch well and the Mariners get the sweep of the Rays.

Pick: Mariners

Rockies (Hoffman) vs Padres (Cosart)

I figured that was coming. As soon as I pick the Padres they lose for the first time in a week. The Rockies took them behind the woodshed yesterday. I really like my chances and getting this game right today. I am going with the Rockies to make Jarred Cosart work way too hard and get into the Padres bullpen early. Then it’s off to the races.

Pick: Rockies

Cardinals (Wacha) vs Cubs (Hendricks)

Both of these pitchers are looking to rebound after rough starts their last time out. I think Hendricks well but Wacha will struggle today. The Cubs are one of the few teams that Wacha doesn’t do well against and that will continue today. The Cubs get the sweep.

Pick: Cubs
