Countdown to College Football: Day 83 "Miami (Ohio)"

The Vitals

School: Miami University (Ohio)
Mascot: Redhawks
Fight Song: Love and Honor

Head Coach: Chuck Martin (11-26)

Best Place to Eat on Campus:
It’s easy to do Italian food but it’s hard to do Italian food well, and even harder to have a creative menu at an Italian restaurant. Paesano’s Pasta House succeeds at both.

Greatest Program Moment:
The “Cradle of Coaches” has had a few excellent seasons throughout their history. If I could find footage of the 1974 Tangerine Bowl victory over Georgia, which concluded a second consecutive undefeated season for the Redhawks, I would hail that as their finest moment. Instead, the 2003 team, led by a large quarterback named Ben Roethlisberger, went 13-1, beat Louisville in the GMAC Bowl, and finished 10th in the country.

Current State of The Program:
Ever since Terry Hoeppner left for Indiana in 2004, Miami has had a total of two winning seasons.  The program swiftly declined culminating in a winless season at the end of the Don Treadwell era. Chuck Martin has steadily improved the program, including getting the 2016 team, which started 0-6, to a bowl game. Martin is a good offensive mind and should continue to progress the program.
