College Football Countdown: Day 59 - Idaho
Today we travel to the rolling hills of The Palouse, and a school built on top of an old uranium mine.
School: University of Idaho
Fight Song: Go Vandals Go
Head Coach: Paul Petrino (24-37)
Stadium: Kibbie Dome (Capacity: 15,200)
Best Place to Eat on Campus:
We have a thing for BBQ here, so one might be inclined to think we'd go with CD's Smoke Pit. Although they really do have tremendous potato salad, their piece de resistance, the ribs, falls well short. I can say, through much personal experience, that The Breakfast Club is far away the finest place to eat in Moscow. Be prepared to wait, this isn't a secret to anyone whose ever spent time on the Palouse.
Greatest Moment in Program History:
Idaho's success at the upper division of college football has been few and far between, which is one of the reasons they are dropping to FCS in 2018. In 2009, led by screaming enthusiast Robb Akey and all world guard Mike Iupati, the Vandals pulled a winning season out of absolutely nowhere. A 7-5 season earned them a spot in the Humanitarian Bowl in their home state. Thanks to a last second touchdown drive and won in wild fashion 43-42.
Current State of the Program:
Resident curmudgeon Paul Petrino, after alienating the media and many close to the program, revealed that he is actually a pretty solid coach. Idaho is well suited to be competitive in their final FBS year and should be immediately a contender in the FCS.
