Countdown to College Football: Day 84 "ASU"

The Vitals

School: Arizona State University
Mascot: Sun Devils
Fight Song:

Head Coach: Todd Graham (88-55, 39-26 at ASU)

Best Place to Eat on Campus:
The Chuckbox. A cash only burger joint. Not much else to say.

Greatest Program Moment:
This was difficult. In 1986, the John Cooper coached Sun Devils went 10-1-1 and beat Michigan in the Rose Bowl. This game would have took a backseat to the 1996 squad had they completed their undefeated season and not lost to Ohio State in the Rose Bowl, a team led by none other than John Cooper. In the 1986 Rose Bowl, they beat a stacked Michigan squad with a team full of relative no names and a quarterback named Jeff Van Raaphorst.

Current State of The Program:
Todd Graham won 28 games in his first three years at ASU. He whipped a team that had grown lazy under Dennis Erickson into shape and wreaked havoc on teams with a physical and attacking defense.  Graham has had losing seasons each of the last two years as the defense has faltered.  In 2016, the defense gave up nearly 40 points a game and an offense stricken by injuries failed to keep up. The trademark physicality is still there, but the talent has slipped a little at ASU.  This could be a key year for Graham as ASU has shown that they do not tolerate consistently mediocre football.
