Here are today's picks:
Nationals (Ross) vs Mets (DeGrom)
The Washington Nationals are going for a four game sweep of the New York Mets today. All the Nationals needed to get themselves back on the right track was to play the Mets. The Mets are good at doing that for teams. Not as good as the Phillies but still pretty good. In the game today I think that DeGrom and the Mets do get a win and avoid the sweep.
White Sox (Shields) vs Blue Jays (Happ)
I completely forgot that James Shields was still pitching for the White Sox. He had a couple good outings at the start of the year and then hit the disabled list. Now that he is back are we going to see the James Shields from this year that was pretty good, or the James Shields from last year that was abysmal. I think today we will see the former and Shields will lead the White Sox to a win.
Pick: White Sox
Dodgers (Maeda) vs Reds (Arroyo)
I picked Bronson Arroyo to beat the Padres in his last start. Now that he is facing a real team, I won’t be making the same decision. I think the Dodgers knock him around today and get the sweep.
Rays (Faria) vs Tigers (Farmer)
Both of these pitchers started the year in the Minor Leagues and have impressed since they got the call to the Majors. In the Rays battle for mediocrity it finds them one game over .500. That means I am going with Detroit and the Rays are back to even again.
Cardinals (Lynn) vs Orioles (Jiminez)
Ubaldo Jiminez was sent to the bullpen because he wasn’t pitching well. Now Baltimore is bringing him back into the rotation because….. well I don’t know why to be honest with you. I think this is another game where Jiminez struggles and the Cardinals will get the win.
Cubs (Lackey) vs Pirates (Taillon)
Every time I ready about Jameson Taillon’s battle with testicular cancer I come away more impressed. I haven’t been impressed with anything John Lackey has done in his career. There is no way I am going with Lackey in this one, even if I think he is the better pitcher (he is not). Give me Taillon and the Pirates to keep the Cubs spiraling downward.
Diamondbacks (Ray) vs Phillies (Lively)
The hottest pitcher in baseball against the coldest team. Easiest pick of the day.
Marlins (Urena) vs Braves (Foltynewicz)
The Braves starting pitcher does better against the opposition than the Marlins starting pitcher. Again with these two teams battling it out in one of the worst divisions I can remember, it is hard for me to get into this game. So I will pick the Braves and move on.
Indians (Bauer) vs Twins (Gibson)
This was supposed to be a good series. A four game set between the top two teams in the A.L Central. Than the Indians came out and said “we are the top dogs” and have won three in a row against the twins and are looking for the sweep today. They will get it too. The Indians win and this is the beginning of the end of the Twins run at the playoffs.
Padres (Perdomo) vs Brewers (Nelson)
Somehow the Milwaukee Brewers are hanging around in first place in their division. They are playing decent baseball, but the teams that were supposed to be fighting it out in the N.L Central, the Cardinals and Cubs, are really struggling. That has allowed the Brewers to take the reins and run with it. We will see how long they can hold the lead. They will get help with a win today over the Padres.
Mariners (Bergman) vs Rangers (Darvish)
Yu Darvish has never lost to the Mariners in Texas. Today won’t be the day that changes. Rangers get the sweep.
Giants (Blach) vs Rockies (Chatwood)
Another team going for a four game sweep is the Colorado Rockies. Unlike the Indians, I don’t think they will get it. I think that Ty Blach will pitch well enough to get the win, and this will be a close game that the Giants will win. Something in the 5-3 range.
Royals (Vargas) vs Angels (Ramirez)
Don’t look now but the Royals are creeping toward the .500 mark and back into playoff contention. Their offense has finally started to turn it around, and now they are handing the ball to their best pitcher of 2017 in Jason Vargas. With a win today Jason Vargas will be the first 10 game winner in baseball. I don’t think anyone saw that coming.
Yankees (Cessa) vs Athletics (Cotton)
The Yankees are really struggling right now. They have lost five games in a row and are looking to avoid the sweep at the hands of the Oakland Athletics. Fortunately for the Yankees they are facing Jharel Cotton. That is a good matchup for them. I think the Yankees get back on the winning side today with a win and they make the cross country flight home more enjoyable.
Red Sox (Price) vs Astros (Musgrove)
David Price continues to work his way back from his injury that sidelined him the first two months of the season, and now he is facing his stiffest test yet. I think he will pass the test and the Red Sox will get the win and take the series from the Astros.
Pick: Red Sox
