Here are today's picks:

Brewers (Woodruff) vs Cardinals (Lynn) Game 1:

Here we go with another doubleheader and both teams calling up pitchers to start. In the first game the Brewers are calling up Brandon Woodruff to make his Major League debut. The avid readers of this blog know how I feel about pitcher making their Major League debut. The odds are stacked against them for a win. Cardinals take game one.

Pick: Cardinals

Braves (Dickey) vs Nationals (Ross)

I have now picked the Nationals to win the last four games. They have lost them all. That means that they are probably going to win today as I am picking them to lose. I have been good at picking games so far this month, but not Nationals games. Trying to turn it around today.

Pick: Braves

Rockies (Chatwood) vs Pirates (Cole)

Good for Jameson Taillon yesterday. I was rooting for him to do well and he sure did, throwing five scoreless innings and getting the win for the Pirates. Looking for their fourth win a row, the Pirates hand the ball to the struggling Gerrit Cole. I like the Rockies to get the win in this one and for Cole to continue to struggle.

Pick: Rockies

Rays (Faria) vs Blue Jays (Estrada)

Is this the day the Jays finally do it? Is this the day that Toronto finally gets back to .500? No I don’t think that today is the day for them. This Rays team of former Mariners castoffs is playing pretty good baseball. They are still pretty average in my opinion, but right now they are two games over .500. I think they get to three games over today with a win.

Pick: Rays

Athletics (Cotton) vs Marlins (Urena)

The Athletics are not a very good baseball team on the road. I mean they aren’t a very good team at home either, but they are truly abhorrent on the road. They have lost eight consecutive series away from Oakland. That is enough reason for me to pick the Marlins today.

Pick: Marlins

Cubs (Lester) vs Mets (Wheeler)

In April the Mets were the team I couldn’t figure out, much like the Nationals now. I have a better track record with them now, as I realized that they defy conventional wisdom. Take today for instance. They are going against the World series Champs with their ace on the mound. Usually that would be an easy win for the Cubs. Not today. Like I said the Mets don’t make anything easy for me as a picker. Today they get the win.

Pick: Mets

Diamondbacks (Greinke) vs Tigers (Farmer)

I know Buck Farmer has not allowed a run in his first two starts. They have been against a Mike Trout-less Angels team and the Chicago White Sox. Not ready to crown him MVP just yet. Today he faces a real offense in the Arizona Diamondbacks, and I think they rough him a little bit.

Pick: Diamondbacks

Dodgers (Kershaw) vs Indians (Bauer)

Yeah.... Don’t even need to explain why.

Pick: Dodgers

Phillies (Lively) vs Red Sox (Price)

The Phillies are already 20 games under .500. That is….. Not very good. Now it is David Price’s turn to get right against them. Price has struggles since his return from the disabled list, but this is just what the Doctor ordered. Price gets right and hands the Phillies yet another loss.

Pick: Red Sox

Orioles (Asher) vs White Sox (Holland)

Make that five straight losses for the Baltimore Orioles, and in all five games they have allowed at least six runs. They need a strong game from their starting pitching to give their bullpen a rest. I don’t think it happens today. The White Sox will make Asher work and then beat the Orioles bullpen to get the win today.

Pick: White Sox

Rangers (Martinez) vs Astros (Peacock)

I am playing the percentages on this one. I have picked the Astros to lose the last three games they have played. I am 2-1 in those games. I can’t keep picking against the best team in baseball though. I am picking them to get the win today.

Pick: Astros

Mariners (Bergman) vs Twins (Gibson)

The Mariners are like the Blue Jays. Trying to scratch and claw their way to .500 for the first time this season. After the ass-kicking they gave the Twins yesterday they are just one game away. Will today be the day for the Mariners. Why yes, yes it will! The Mariners get to that .500 mark with a win today over Gibson and the Twins.

Pick: Mariners

Brewers (Nelson) vs Cardinals (Gonzales)

Unlike Brandon Woodruff, Marco Gonzales has pitched in the Major Leagues before. That being said I am still going to say the Brewers win the nightcap and earn the split today.

Pick: Brewers

Yankees (Sabathia) vs Angles (Ramirez)

The Yankees only scored five runs yesterday in getting a win over the Angels. That was the lowest scoring game on their current six game winning streak. Aaron Judge did hit another home run yesterday though. That kid is insanely hot right now. I think he stays hot and the Yankees get another win today.

Pick: Yankees

Reds (Feldman) vs Padres (Richard)

Scott Feldman is pitching well. Clayton Richard is not. That is enough for me to pick the Reds.

Pick: Reds

Royals (Vargas) vs Giants (Blach)

How the mighty have fallen. It doesn’t feel like that long ago these two teams played in the World Series. Now they are both going to be sellers at the trade deadline. In this game I am going to go with the resurgent Jason Vargas and the Kansas City Royals. He has been great against every team but the Yankees this year. That stays true today.

Pick: Royals
