MLB Pick'Em 06/11

MLB Pick'em 06/11

We reached a milestone yesterday at MLB Pick'Em. With another day of double digit wins, we hit over 500 victories for the season. June has historically been the best month for picking games, so let's see if we can get it to continue today. The picture today is for James Paxton. Look at that leaf on his forearm. You know he has to be excited to pitch against his home countries team today. I mean his nickname is "Big Maple" for Christs sake. Alright onto the results.

Yesterday's Picks: 12-5
Guest Picks: 17-11

Monthly Picks: 80-55
Yearly Picks: 502-424

Here are today's picks:

Orioles (Gausman) vs Yankees (Green)

The Yankees have outscored the orioles 24-5 in the first two games of this series. Now Baltimore is handing the ball to Kevin Gausman to stop the bleeding. That won’t happen. I think the Yankees get at least eight more runs today and get the sweep of the Orioles to extend their A.L East lead even more.

Pick: Yankees

Athletics (Hahn) vs Rays (Archer)

The second game of yesterday’s doubleheader went how I thought it would. The Rays had to use their bullpen early and often against the Athletics. They really need Chris Archer to eat up some innings today. Fortunately for Rays fans, Archer is the guy you want on the mound. He hasn’t been as dominant as I thought he would be this year, but today he will give the Rays exactly what they need and will get the win.

Pick: Rays

White Sox (Quintana) vs Indians (Carrasco)

Which Jose Quintana are we going to get today? Are we going to get the one that has struggled in 2017, going 2-7 in the first two plus months of the season, or are we going to get the Quintana that is 7-4 with a 2.63 ERA against the Indians. I think we are going to get the latter today. It looks to me like he is finally starting to figure it out.

Pick: White Sox

Marlins (Locke) vs Pirates (Nova)

Ivan Nova has been battling knee inflammation for much of the past week. If he gives it a go he will not be 100% I think that is all the advantage the Marlins need to get the win today.

Pick: Marlins

Mets (Lugo) vs Braves (Garcia)

For the second consecutive game the Mets are having a season pitcher make their season debut. Yesterday it was Steven Matz and today it is Seth Lugo. Lugo pitched well for the Mets down the stretch last year, but has been on the shelf all year with shoulder problems. He will probably be on a pitch count, but I still like the Mets to take care of business today.

Pick: Mets

Angels (Chavez) vs Astros (Paulino)

Jesse Chavez is another pitcher that has had a lot of success in his career against the Astros. He has a career ERA under 3 in 23 appearances against Houston. Yesterday I picked Nolasco because of that reason and it didn’t work for me. I am going with history again today.

Pick: Angels

Phillies (Nola) vs Cardinals (Wainwright)

The Cardinals end their get right series against the Phillies today with another win. Still under .500 but getting better.

Pick: Cardinals

Rockies (Senzatela) vs Cubs (Arrieta)

The Cubs have won seven games in a row and are looking to sweep a four game series at Wrigley Field on Sunday. Antonio Senzatela has been a revelation for the Rockies, and is looking for his league leading ninth win of this season. I don’t think he will get it however. I think Arrieta and the Cubs will salvage one game of this series and will get the win today.

Pick: Cubs

Rangers (Biben-Dirkx) vs Nationals (Scherzer)

Not thinking too hard on this one. Scherzer needs to stop the bleeding for the Nationals, after two straight losses to the Rangers. He will.

Pick: Nationals

Twins (Turley) vs Giants (Cain)

Kyle Turley will be making his Major League debut today. I think the Twins are the better team (never thought I’d say that at the beginning of the year) but today will belong to the Giants.

Pick: Giants

Brewers (Anderson) vs Diamondbacks (Ray)

Robbie Ray is way too hot right now for me to pick against him. I know that Chase Anderson is pitching well, but Ray is on another planet. I don’t think he will continue to dominate like he has been the past month, but he will be good enough to get the win today.

Pick: Diamondbacks

Reds (Adleman) vs Dodgers (Ryu)

After yesterday’s walk-off win, the Dodgers have now won eight games in a row against the Reds in Los Angeles. I don’t think that streak gets to nine. These pitchers have similar splits, but I think that Tim Adleman will get the better of Ryu today. I also think Joey Votto hits a home run today. Just another fun prediction.

Pick: Reds

Royals (Junis) vs Padres (Lamet)

Poor Ian Kennedy. Even though his Royals won 12-5 yesterday he didn’t get the win. That is because the Royals scored nine runs in the eighth inning to take the lead. Today they won’t be so lucky. Lamet and the Padres win today and take the series.

Pick: Padres

Blue Jays (Happ) vs Mariners (Paxton)

The Mariners are handing the ball to their ace right now, and Canadian lefty James Paxton has to be excited. I think Paxton and the Mariners dominate today and get the series win over the Blue Jays.

Pick: Mariners

Tigers (Norris) vs Red Sox (Pomeranz)

I still don’t trust Drew Pomeranz. These Sunday Night games usually are close affairs, so I will see that will happen again today. I am going to pick the Tigers in a close one, 4-2.

Pick: Tigers
