MLB Pick'Em 06/10

Another day of double digit wins. I think we are finally starting to get the hang of this whole picks thing. With two doubleheaders today that means we have 17 games to pick. Enjoy.

Here are today's picks:

Rangers (Perez) vs Nationals (Gonzalez)

I wonder how often it has been that two pitchers have faced each other that have their last names end in the letter Z. Probably not too often I would guess. It is happening today and I think the Nationals will come out on top in this one.

Pick: Nationals

Mets (Gsellman) vs Braves (Newcomb) Game 1

I don’t like taking players making their first Major League start but I also don’t like picking Robert Gsellman. This is a tough one for me. I am going to go with Gsellman and the Mets, who will get a lift from the return of Yoenis Cespedes. Mets win a high scoring affair today in game one of their doubleheader.

Pick: Mets

Athletics (Gray) vs Rays (Ramirez) Game 1

We have two doubleheaders today! The second one takes us to Tampa Bay, where the Athletics and Rays square off. I have been impressed with the way Erasmo Ramirez has pitched this year, and I think he will lead the Rays to victory in game one.

Pick: Rays

Phillies (Pivetta) vs Cardinals (Martinez)

All the Cardinals needed to get right was to face the Phillies. I feel like that is true for most teams. They will continue to get right today and Carlos Martinez will shut Philadelphia down.

Pick: Cardinals

Rockies (Hoffman) vs Cubs (Butler)

The Rockies have one season in their history where they played over .500 on the road. That record was 41-40. This year they are 23-10 away from the friendly confines of Coors Field. I think it safe to say they will blow that record out of the water. They have taken two in a row from the Cubs and will make it three in a row today.

Pick: Rockies

Marlins (Straily) vs Pirates (Williams)

Trevor Williams is pitching for his rotation spot today. That is not a good omen for him. I think that after the game today Williams will lose his spot in the rotation as the Marlins will get to him early and often.

Pick: Marlins

Twins (Berrios) vs Giants (Samardzija)

The readers of this blog know how I feel about these pitchers. My admirations for Jose Berrios and my disdain for Jeff Samardzija are almost at an even level. The readers also know who I would pick in this game. Not a tough call.

Pick: Twins

Angels (Nolasco) vs Astros (Fiers)

Ricky Nolasco does well against exactly one team in his career. That team just happens to be the Houston Astros. Counting his win against them earlier this year, he is 7-1 against Houston. I didn’t see that one coming at all. I am going with history and am picking Nolasco and the Angels to get the win.

Pick: Angels

Royals (Kennedy) vs Padres (Diaz)

Now that Edinson Volquez is getting wins, Ian Kennedy is the next one that I am rooting for to get his first win of the season. I think this is his best chance of the season. As a former Padre he knows the park, and this Padres team is awful. I think Ian Kennedy finally gets his first win of the season and the Royals win.

Pick: Royals

Athletics (Manaea) vs Rays (Andriese) Game 2

In game two of this doubleheader I am going to go with the Athletics. Matt Andriese is making his return from the disabled list and might be on a bit of a pitch count. That is not good when you have a doubleheader. I think Sean Manaea and the Athletics get the win to split the doubleheader today.

Pick: Athletics

Mets (Matz) vs Braves (Wisler) Game 2

Speaking of pitch counts, Steven Matz will definitely be on one for the Mets today. He is making his first start of the year, and it’s in game two of a doubleheader. That is a little surprising for me. I am going with the Braves in game two for the same reason why I picked the Athletics in game two. The Mets need Gsellman to go long in game one as Matz won’t go long in game two.

Pick: Braves

Tigers (Verlander) vs Red Sox (Sale)

Chris Sale. All I need to say.

Pick: Red Sox

White Sox (Holmberg) vs Indians (Tomlin)

Josh Tomlin has had to work to get his ERA to 5.54. That is how bad of a start he got off to this season. He has been getting better as the year has been going on. I think that will continue today and Tomlin will lead the Indians to a win against their A.L Central rival.

Pick: Indians

Orioles (Tillman) vs Yankees (Severino)

Luis Severino is pitching like a man who wants to stay in the rotation for the Yankees. A couple of months ago his spot was in jeopardy, but he has taken it and ran with it. It helps when you have the Yankee offense behind you, but he is pitching well. He does it again today and the Yankees win again.

Pick: Yankees

Blue Jays (Stroman) vs Mariners (Miranda)

I was at the game yesterday between these two teams. It was a weird atmosphere because there were so many Blue Jays fans. It was a fun game though, and my Mariners came out on top. I don’t think they will today. Stroman has already shut them down once this year and I think he will do it again today.

Pick: Blue Jays

Reds (Wojciechowski) vs Dodgers (Wood)

Alex Wood is right up there with Clayton Kershaw for the best pitcher in the Dodger rotation right now. I don’t think he is as good as Kershaw, no one is, but I think he is a very good pitcher in his own right. He is 6-0 this year and will not get his first loss today.

Pick: Dodgers

Brewers (Guerra) vs Diamondbacks (Godley)

This is a tough call for me. I like both of these pitchers and both of these offenses equally. For me the deciding factor is how well the Diamondbacks play at home. They win a close won today.

Pick: Diamondbacks
