Yesterday's Picks: 5-9
Monthly Picks: 41-53
Yearly Picks: 236-229
Giants (Moore) vs Mets (DeGrom)
Both of these teams have underachieved so far in 2017. The Giants are a dumpster fire and the Mets are only slightly better. I actually thought both of these teams would make the playoffs this year. Odds don’t look good for that happening. The one consistent pitcher for the Mets this year has been DeGrom. I like him to get the win today.
Nationals (Gonzalez) vs Orioles (Gausman)
Kevin Gausman has been the San Francisco Giants of starting pitchers this year. He came into the season with so much promise and so far has underdelivered. Now he is facing the best hitting team in all of baseball. That is not a good recipe for a win for Mr. Gausman.
Indians (Bauer) vs Blue Jays (Stroman)
The Blue Jays might be exactly what Trevor Bauer needs to break out of his funk. The Blue Jays are still one of the worst hitting teams in all of baseball, especially without Josh Donaldson and Troy Tulowitzki. I think both pitchers throw well but I like the Indians in a low scoring game.
Yankees (Tanaka) vs Reds (Davis)
What a game yesterday for the Yankees. The 18 inning marathon went their way against the Cubs, but with a taxed bullpen they really need Tanaka to give them some innings in this game. If I am the Reds I make him work and see if you can get into that bullpen early. I think that they can and I like the Reds to take this one, just because the Yankees will be exhausted.
Cardinals (Martinez) vs Marlins (Conley)
The Cardinals are rolling now, and their reward is a date against Adam Conley and the Marlins. St. Louis got the sweep against the Braves to get to two days over .500. Maybe they will get on a roll and will get to a season high three games over .500. Then again maybe not. I actually like Conley and the Marlins to halt the three game winning streak the Cardinals are on.
Royals (Karns) vs Rays (Snell)
The Royals come to the Sunshine State still sporting the worst offense in all of baseball. After yesterdays 1-0 snoozefest, the fourth time they have been shutout already this year, they now face off against a talented youngster in Blake Snell. While Nathan Karns might be excited for his return to the team that drafted him, I still like the Rays to take this one.
Cubs (Arrieta) vs Rockies (Senzatela)
See the Yankees-Reds for my reasoning in this one, with two bigger disadvantages for the Cubs. The first one is they are playing at Coors Field. The second is the fact they lost yesterday. That had to be very disheartening.
Angels (Nolasco) vs Athletics (Graveman)
This is already the third time these two pitchers have faced off this season. Both of them have a win against the other, so today will be the rubber match. Oakland is riding high after back to back walk off wins, and I think that will carry them to victory today too.
Pirates (Williams) vs Dodgers (McCarthy)
The dodgers are getting productivity from a rookie, as Cody Bellinger continues his torrid start. He is tied for the team lead in home runs despite playing in only 11 games this year. Now he and the Dodgers are facing a pitcher making his second career start. Dodgers win again today.
Rangers (Martinez) vs Padres (Cahill)
Both of these teams find themselves in the cellar of their respective leagues, and now battle in a 4 game-2 city- interleague series. The difference between the two is the Padres were supposed to be bad. The Rangers were not. Maybe Texas can turn it around, but to do so they will need to get much better pitching from their bullpen. I don't think they get it today and game one of the series goes to San Diego.
