MLB Pick'Em 05/06

Welcome crazies to MLB Pick'Em 2017! I have a morning flight. It's early and I'm feeling all right. My fantasy team was supposed to be built for the future and present, but is looking like it's only built for the future as of today. Me very sad.

May Today (6th), 2017 Picks:

Red Sox (Porcello) vs Twins (Tepesch)

The Twins have beaten up on teams like the Royals and the Athletics so far this year, but when they play good teams they struggle. The RedSox definitely qualify as a good team. I think that Boston will continue that trend and win today against the Twins.

Pick: Red Sox

Blue Jays (Estrada) vs Rays (Odorizzi)

Toronto won again yesterday. They our finally starting to play better after that dismal start. Now they send Marco Estrada to the hill, who has been their most consistent starter this year. Estrada is only 1-5 against the Rays however, and the man he is opposing usually shuts the Blue Jays down. I like Odorizzi and the Rays to win today and even up the series.

Pick: Rays

Indians (Tomlin) vs Royals (Vargas)

The Royals have 10 wins this year. Jason Vargas has 4 of them. Vargas continues to be the only bright spot in what has been a dismal season for Kansas City so far. I am going to ride with Vargas and his changeup to keep the Indians hitters off balance and pick up win number 5 today.

Pick: Royals

White Sox (Covey) vs Orioles (Buny)

Another pitcher looking for his fifth win of the year is Dylan Bundy. Bundy is finally pitching like the guy that Orioles thought they would get when they drafted him in the first round all those years ago. Much like Vargas, I think that that Bundy stays hot and gets win number 5 of the year. Orioles win.

Pick: Orioles

Nationals (Cole) vs Phillies (Velasquez)

A..J Cole wasn’t good last year when he got called up to make a few starts for the Nationals. He hasn’t been good in triple-A so far this year either. I have no reason to think that he will do well today. Velasquez just needs to contain the Nationals offense (easier said than done) and I think he will do enough to lead the Phillies to victory.

Pick: Phillies

Brewers (Garza) vs Pirates (Cole)

In two starts for the Brewers this year Matt Garza has given up two home runs. That number isn’t surprising at all, as Garza usually gives up the long ball. I think he gives up two more today and Gerritt Cole and the pirates come away with the win.

Pick: Pirates

Cardinals (Leake) vs Braves (Teheran)

Like I said yesterday the Cardinals got the win to move back to .500. now they look to get over .500 as they face Teheran and the Braves. I think they will get over that threshold today as Mike Leake shuts down the Braves offense and the Cardinals bats stay hot against Teheran.

Pick: Cardinals

Giants (Blach) vs Reds (Garrett)

Ty Blach has been a pleasant surprise so far this year in replacing Madison Bumgarner. He looks to continue pitching well against Garrett and the Reds. I see no reason why he won’t, as the Reds bats really don’t instill a lot of fear in my eyes. I like Blach and the Giants to come out on top in this one.

Pick: Giants

Marlins (Despaigne) vs Mets (Gsellman)

Here I thought the Robert Gsellman’s name would be the toughest one for me to spell today. Gsellman has flat out sucked this year but it is Despaigne’s first start and I usually don’t like going with rookies. I will make an exception in this game though. That is how bad Robert Gsellman is pitching. I like the Marlins to get the win today.

Pick: Marlins

Yankees (Montgomery) vs Cubs (Anderson)

What an exciting game yesterday! Down to their last strike the Yankees hit a three run home run to take game one of this series. Today I think the Cubs even it up. They will get to Jordan Montgomery and get into that bullpen early. If you can face anyone other than Betances and Chapman than you got a good shot to beat the Yankees, and that is what will happen today.

Pick: Cubs

Diamondbacks (Corbin) vs Rockies (Anderson)

Tyler Anderson is really the only young Rockies starter that struggled in April. Everyone else exceeded expectations except for Anderson, who has an ERA over 7 right now and continues to struggle at Coors Field. He is now facing one of the best offenses in baseball at his home park. I don’t like his chances to get back on the winning side today.

Pick: Diamondbacks

Dodgers (Kershaw) vs Padres (Richard)

Not getting cute in this one. Kershaw over the Padres. Book it.

Pick: Dodgers

Tigers (Zimmermann) vs Athletics (Hahn)

Jesse Hahn is 3-0 in three starts against the Tigers in his career. That stat alone would have me leaning with the Athletics. Combine that with the fact that Jordan Zimmermann can’t get anyone out and you have a slam dunk pick for Oakland.

Pick: Athletics

Astros (McCullers) vs Angels (Ramirez)

Another game not to get cute with. McCullers dominates the Angels and the Astros are a much better team than the Angels. This is a simple pick too.

Pick: Astros

Rangers (Perez) vs Mariners (De Jong)

The Mariners used seven relievers yesterday and still lost to the Rangers in 13 innings. Now they are sending Chase De Jong to the mound knowing they need him to get deep into this game to save an already taxed bullpen. I don’t like the chances of that happening. De Jong gets the hook early again and the Rangers get the win.

Pick: Rangers
