MLB Pick'Em 05/29
Welcome to the Memorial Day edition of MLB Pick'Em 2017! I am back from my short vacation, where I participated in Bozofest, an ultimate frisbee tournament in Bozeman, MT! The sky actually is bigger out there. I thought it was a dumb saying, but damn, the sky overtakes everything, even the mountains. Oh, those mountains, they circle you! I'm used to growing up on the west coast, where mountains fall in line along the coast, in Bozeman, they circle you. I don't know how that's possible, I'll need to consort with a geologist. I recommend you experience those beauties someday.
This is also the last day of our video game series of introductory pictures. Tomorrow we move into cringe-worthy old-time star-studded advertising!

May Today (29th), 2017 Picks:
Yankees (Montgomery) vs Orioles (Bundy)
The Baltimore Orioles have lost seven games in a row and now open up a three game series against the first place Yankees in Baltimore. The Yankees have opened up a four and a half game lead in the Orioles in the American League East. After today it will be down to three and a half. I think Bundy will keep the Yankees bats down and the offense will do just enough to win a low scoring game.
Red Sox (Price) vs White Sox (Holmberg)
David Price is set to make his long awaited 2017 debut today against the White Sox. Chicago is countering with a guy who has made one relief appearance this year in David Holmberg. I do not think we will see vintage David Price today. I also do not think we will have too. The Red sox win this one behind the strength of their offense.
Pick: Red Sox
Astros (Peacock) vs Twins (Santana)
Minnesota really needs its starting pitcher to go deep into this game, after playing a 15 inning game against Tampa Bay yesterday. Fortunately for them they have the right guy on the mound. Ervin Santana has been lights out all year and will continue to be today, as he get deep into the game and wins number 8 today against the first place Astros.
Dodgers (Hill) vs Cardinals (Leake)
These two pitchers faced each other last week with Mike Leake coming out on top. I see that happening again today. Leake pitches well and gets the win against the Dodgers in game one of this series.
Mariners (Gaviglio) vs Rockies (Chatwood)
The Mariners have the worst record in the American League. The Rockies have the best record in the National League. That is why this pick will be a shock. I am going to go with the last place Mariners to get the win today. It is the first time I have picked the Mariners in quite some time. I think they will reward me with a victory today.
Nationals (Roark) vs Giants (Moore)
Tanner Roark had a rough stretch before facing a wonderful cure all for pitchers. The Seattle Mariners. Now he faces a team he has never lost to in the San Francisco Giants. I think that trend continues as Roark and the Nationals get the win in game of one of a long California road trip.
Diamondbacks (Delgado) vs Pirates (Williams)
Neither one of these pitchers started the year in the rotation. Delgado joined the D-backs rotation when Taijuan Walker got hurt. Williams joined the Pirates rotation when Jameson Taillon had surgery for testicular cancer. Williams has not pitched well but the rest of the Pirates rotation is in shamble so he actually has a chance to stick. I don’t think he should as I don’t think he is a good Major Legue pitcher. Diamondbacks prove that today.
Athletics (Mengden) vs Indians (Carrasco)
Daniel Mengden had to be called up today because of an injury to the Athletics rotation. He has good numbers in the Minor Leagues but I am still going with the proven Major Leaguer in Carlos Carrasco. I think the Indians win today.
Brewers (Garza) vs Mets (Gsellman)
Robert Gsellman got demoted to the bullpen after struggling in the rotation, but was put right back in after yet another injury to a Mets starting pitcher. I don’t think this time around will be much better. I like the Brewers to take this one on the strength of Matt Garza.
Cubs (Hendricks) vs Padres (Cosart)
I don’t care how bad the Cubs are playing right now. They should beat a team as bad as the Padres 2 out of 3 times, if not sweep them. That is what good teams do and despite their record, the Cubs are a good team. They win today.
Tigers (Norris) vs Royals (Hammel)
Jason Hammel has pitched better recently, but I’m still not comfortable enough picking him to win a game. I know he has done it once this year. Good for him. I know he will probably win a couple more this year at some point. I do not think it will be today however. Probably wait until he pitches against the Mariners.
Reds (Bonilla) vs Blue Jays (Stroman)
Marcus Stroman has been pitching well the last month. Lisalverto Bonilla has not pitched well since he got called up from the minors. I think both of those trends continue today and the Blue Jays win.
Pick: Blue Jays
Phillies (Hellickson) vs Marlins (Volquez)
Today is the day for Edinson Volquez. Today is the day he finally gets his first win of 2017! All he needed was to play the Phillies. Go get ‘em Edinson.
Rays (Ramirez) vs Rangers (Perez)
Erasmo Ramirez has been pitching well since entering the rotation for Tampa Bay. Ramirez does struggle against the Rangers however. He has never beaten them in his career. I think that the latter trend continues today and the Rangers get the win in the opener in Arlington.
Braves (Teheran) vs Angels (Nolasco)
As a Mike Trout fantasy baseball owner, I really hope he has a speedy recovery and returns to the lineup soon. The Angels will win today despite probably not having the services of the best player in baseball. The reason for the pick is because Julio Teheran is not good in interleague matchups. That will continue today.
