May Today (27th), 2017 Picks:

Athletics (Cotton) vs Yankees (Sabathia)

This has all the makings of a high scoring game. You have two pitchers that give up a lot of home runs, two offenses that hit a lot of home runs, and a small stadium. I think the Yankees offense is better than the Athletics offense, so I will pick them to slug their way to a win today.

Pick: Yankees

Rangers (Darvish) vs Blue Jays (Estrada)

Both of these pitchers are hot right now and both pitch well against the opposing team. This will be a low scoring affair. I think that the starters will actually cancel each other out, so this game will go to the bullpen. That is not good for Texas. They don’t have that good of a bullpen to begin with, and they are taxed right now with A.J Griffin not getting out of the second inning due to injury yesterday. Blue Jays take advantage.

Pick: Blue Jays

Rays (Odorizzi) vs Twins (Mejia)

Adalberto Mejia is getting called up from the Minor Leagues to makes a spot start for the Twins. He was set down earlier this season for not being effective enough to hold on to a spot. I don’t think he has magically figured it out in the short time he was in the minors. I like the Rays to get the win today as well and win the series.

Pick: Rays

Tigers (Farmer) vs White Sox (Holland) Game 1:

These two teams had a doubleheader scheduled yesterday but could only get one game in. So they play two today. My rules that applied yesterday also apply today. Both pitchers that got called up for a spot start will be throwing today, Farmer in game one for the Tigers and Danish in game two for the White Sox. So I will be picking the White Sox in game one and the Tigers in game two.

Pick: White Sox

Mariners (Whalen) vs Red Sox (Johnson)

Rob Whalen becomes the 12th starting pitcher for the Mariners already this season. We aren’t even to June yet and the Mariners are already calling up double-a pitchers to make starts for the big league team. That is horrible. Part of it is injury, part of it is sub-par pitching, and all of it is sad. I haven’t picked the Mariners to win a game in over a week. That trend continues today.

Pick: Red Sox

Padres (Richards) vs Nationals (Strasburg)

I mean in what universe would anyone pick the Padres to win this game? I know the games are played on the field and not on paper, but I just don’t see it happening.

Pick: Nationals

Reds (Arroyo) vs Phillies (Eickhoff)

Am I going to do it? Am I really going to do it? I am! I am! I am going to pick Bronson Arroyo to win a Major League game in 2017. It feels weird, but it is the right pick. That’s how bad the Phillies are right now.

Pick: Reds

Royals (Vargas) vs Indians (Salazar)

Jason Vargas has to be thrilled not to face the New York Yankees today. In his previous two starts, both against the Bronx Bombers, he went 0-2 with an ERA over 8. Against everyone else in the American League he has been lights out. That continues today and the Royals win their second in a row against Cleveland.

Pick: Royals

Diamondbacks (Greinke) vs Brewers (Anderson)

Today will be lucky number seven for the Diamondbacks. They will win their seventh game in a row and Zach Greinke will get his seventh win in the process.

Pick: Diamondbacks

Angels (Ramirez) vs Marlins (Worley)

The Marlins shuffled their lineup yesterday and it paid big dividends in taking game one against the Angels. Ir might not matter today though, because Vance Worley won’t be getting many outs in his 2017 home debut for the Marlins. The Angels get the win today in a high scoring game and once again get back to .500.

Pick: Angels

Tigers (Fulmer) vs White Sox (Danish) Game 2:

I wrote above why I am picking the Tigers.

Pick: Tigers

Orioles (Miley) vs Astros (Keuchel)

Dallas Keuchel is back from the disabled list, and is looking to run his record to 8-0. Today he opposes Wade Miley and the Orioles. I am impressed that Wade Miley is still pitching well, but I don’t think he will pitch well enough today. Keuchel and the Astros are too strong for Miley, so Houston will get the win.

Pick: Astros

Cubs (Lackey) vs Dodgers (McCarthy)

These two pitchers met earlier this year, with McCarthy and the Dodgers taking a 2-0 win over Lackey and the Cubs. I don’t think the score will be quite so low but I think the outcome will be the same. A Dodgers win.

Pick: Dodgers

Mets (Wheeler) vs Pirates (Cole)

This game is not moving the needle at all for me. Two teams I don’t really care about that aren’t going anywhere. Both underachieving. Pirates win. Moving on.

Pick: Pirates

Cardinals (Wainwright) vs Rockies (Freeland)

Adam Wainwright has the best ERA by an opposing pitcher in Coors Field history. He is 9-1 with an ERA of 1.7 in his career in the Mile High city. I am going to go with history on this one. I think he does well again their today and the Cardinals even up the series at a game apiece.

Pick: Cardinals

Braves (Foltynewicz) vs Giants (Blach)

Ty Blach pitches well at home. There is my reason.

Pick: Giants
