MLB Pick'Em 05/24

Welcome to MLB Pick'Em fellow fans who never remember Ichiro batting righty and playing for the Red Sox. Going forward we're going to do a couple things differently. When we get into into work we're going to hang our coats on our respective hooks, which have been personally identified using black sharpie. Below the large hook for our coats will be a smaller hook for our keys. Management is still toying around with the idea of including charging stations for phones, but concerns have been raised that this might take workers away from their picking stations in order to check their phone. We're not saying this issue will kill the charging pod idea, but it is troubling to say the least. We're not running a charity.

No sir. Please exercise caution when removing your coat. If possible, match up with a coat removal buddy who will assist you, ensuring no eyes are gouged out due to flailing arms. Irresponsibility is a sin. Once your coat is off, your keys hung, and thought unseen, a charging dock utilized, go to your work stations and pretend to work for a few hours. Feel free to listen to a few podcasts or check out the latest celebrity gossip. Remember to refrain from using too much of your smartphone battery, which could lead to excessive use of the charging station that we haven't even approved yet. Remember, you're an employee, not a Sands all-inclusive vacationer.

May Today (24th), 2017 Picks:

Twins (Berrios) vs Orioles (Tillman)

Jose Berrios has looked like the real deal for the Twins in his first two starts of 2017. He was lights out in AAA to start the year as well. He is forming a very good 1-2 punch with Ervin Santana at the moment. I think that he stays hot and the Twins get the sweep of the Orioles today.

Pick: Twins

Blue Jays (Stroman) vs Brewers (Garza)

This could be an interesting pitchers dual between Stroman and Garza. I have liked Marcus Stroman all year long and Matt Garza has pitched very well since his return from the disabled list. It will be a low scoring affair in this one, but at the end of the day I am going to with the home team to get the win and take the series.

Pick: Brewers

Marlins (Volquez) vs Athletics (Gray)

Could this be the day Edison Volquez gets his first win of the season? Well it could be, but I don’t think it will. The Athletics bats are too hot right now, and I think they put up another crooked number on the Marlins today. Maybe his next start will be the one.

Pick: Athletics

White Sox (Quintana) vs Diamondbacks (Delgado)

The Diamondbacks long reliever is making a spot start today. Never a good sign. White Sox win and salvage one game in this series.

Pick: White Sox

Reds (Bonilla) vs Indians (Bauer)

Trevor Bauer may not be very good against the league he pitches in, but once it crosses to interleague he starts pitching like a #3 pick should. In his career Bauer is 7-3 with an ERA under 3 in interleague starts. I am going to go with history here today and pick Bauer and the Indians to get the win.

Pick: Indians

Royals (Hammel) vs Yankees (Severino)

Same as the last time Hammel started. I will not pick him against the Yankees. I do not care who he is throwing against.

Pick: Yankees

Mariners (Gaviglio) vs Nationals (Roark)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I’m laughing to hide my tears.

Pick: Nationals

Rockies (Chatwood) vs Phillies (Hellickson)

The Phillies have been awful this season. They are 4-18 in their last 22 games. The one bright spot has been Jeremy Hellickson, who just happens to be pitching today. I know the Rockies are in first place and the Phillies are in last. I am going with the matchup today. The Phillies get a rare win and Hellickson earns his sixth win of the season.

Pick: Phillies

Rangers (Perez) vs Red Sox (Sale)

Just hand Chris Sale the A.L Cy Young right now. He has been that dominant. Third in ERA, second in innings pitched, and first in strikeouts. That is total dominance. That dominance continues today against the Rangers.

Pick: Red Sox

Padres (Cosart) vs Mets (Gsellman)

The Padres are perhaps the only team I would pick Robert Gsellman against. Here is my prediction for this game. If Gsellman loses he gets sent down to the minors. I don’t think he will lose today.

Pick: Mets

Angels (Nolasco) vs Rays (Ramirez)

This is another case where I am going with history. Ricky Nolasco is winless in his career at Tropicana Field. He is 0-3 with an ERA over 7 in Tampa Bay. Combine that with the fact that Erasmo Ramirez has pitched well since joining the rotation in favor of Blake Snell, and you got all the signs for a Rays victory.

Pick: Rays

Pirates (Williams) vs Braves (Teheran)

Trevor Williams needs to pitch well to stay in the starting rotation for the Pirates. The Braves are a team you want to face if you are a struggling pitcher, but I just haven’t seen enough from Williams to say he is struggling. He is just not a good major league pitcher. I think the Braves get the win today and this is Williams’ last start in the big leagues for awhile.

Pick: Braves

Giants (Moore) vs Cubs (Hendricks)

Kyle Hendricks is starting to pitch like the break out pitcher he was in 2016, and that spells trouble for Cubs opponents. If you get Hendricks and Arrieta going, combined with Jon Lester doing what he always does, the National League is once again in trouble. In this game Hendricks continues to pitch well and the Cubs get the win.

Pick: Cubs

Tigers (Norris) vs Astros (Morton)

I really like the Astros. I think they are going to run away with the American League West and are a real World Series contender. That being said, they will still lose 60 plus games this year, just like everyone else. Today will be one of those losses. I don’t really have a reason why. Just going with my gut that Norris and the Tigers win today.

Pick: Tigers

Cardinals (Leake) vs Dodgers (Hill)

That was a fun one last night. 1-1 going into extra innings? Those kind of games are always entertaining to me. Runs could be at a premium again today as Mike Leake and Rich Hill square off. They both have an ERA under 3. I trust Leake a little more than Rich Hill at the moment, as you never know when those blisters will reappear. I like the Cardinals in another low scoring game.

Pick: Cardinals
