MLB Pick'Em 05/22
Welcome to the MLB Pick'Em 2017, where we wine, we dine, but it's private, not showtime. Today I presume the normal picker will be back. He hasn't been attacked by a pack of sad-sack wolves. No, not that I know of. I feel like I did ok picking for him. Could have been better. I feel like there was at least 3 losses that were pretty close--specifically both Indians/Astros and today's Phillies/Pirates. Oh well, the ball just didn't bounce right. Oh well, that's why they life is what happens when you're busy making plans. Oh well, let's see for yourself how I did.

May Today (22nd), 2017 Picks:
Twins (Gibson) vs Orioles (Jimenez)
The Twins are calling up Kyle Gibson for a spot start today against the Orioles. Kyle Gibson, that of an 0-4 record and an ERA over 8, is getting a spot start. Call me crazy but I do not like his chances today to get his first win of the season. Ubaldo Jimenez is struggling as well, but I still like him to pitch better than Gibson and get the win.
Royals (Vargas) vs Yankees (Pineda)
Jason Vargas has never beaten the Yankees in his career. Las time out he got shelled against the Bronx Bombers. I’m siding with history once again.
Rockies (Hoffman) vs Phillies (Eickhoff)
These teams are heading in opposite directions right now. The Rockies have the best record in the National League, and the Phillies are 4-17 in their last 21 games. I almost want to pick the Phillies in this game but the Rockies are too strong.
Indians (Tomlin) vs Reds (Feldman)
Neither one of these pitchers instills any confidence in me whatsoever. Both of the offenses are good, so no advantage there either. Guess that means we are going to the bullpen. Big advantage for the Indians there. That is why I am going with Cleveland to win game one in the battle for Ohio.
Angels (Ramirez) vs Rays (Odorizzi)
Both of these teams currently sit with identical 23-23 records. They are both perfectly average baseball teams. I am going to go with the team that is hotter right now, the Rays. They play in a tougher division and have been doing well the last couple weeks. I like Tampa Bay to get the win today and get over .500
Pirates (Cole) vs Braves (Foltynewicz)
Gerrit Cole has pitched well this year but has received no run support. That is why his record is 2-4, despite having an ERA under 3. This time he will take matters into his own hands and shut down an overmatched Braves team. Without Freddie Freeman, this team is going to go straight down the tubes. Pirates win today.
Giants (Blach) vs Cubs (Lackey)
Giants are 7-2 in their last nine games. This will be a real test for them, as now they play the World Series Champion Chicago Cubs (Still feels weird to write). Even though I am not a John Lackey fan, he has been pitching well the last few starts, and I need to be smart here. I think that Lackey stays hot and the Cubs take game one of this series.
Tigers (Fulmer) vs Astros (Peacock)
This is the first adversity the Astros have faced this season. They were swept by the Indians and lost their ace and their starting catcher. Brad Peacock has not thrown more than two innings in any game this year, so we could see another bullpen game. Those rarely work out well for the team that is trying to do that. Won’t work well today either.
White Sox (Gonzalez) vs Diamondbacks (Greinke)
The White Sox are another team that got hot playing the Mariners. The last team to do that, the Blue Jays, promptly lost three of their next four games. Sorry you had to leave Seattle and play a real time with a real Major League starting pitcher White Sox, but today you have to deal with Greinke. Diamondbacks win.
