MLB Pick'Em 05/19

Welcome gypsies, vagabonds, and wenches to MLB Pick'Em 2017! We're an all inclusive baseball picks column. We don't care what curses you've put on potentially innocent people over a simple mistake, who hasn't got a little heated and then ruined another person's life? And you, vagabond, I bet you lead such a carefree life that occasionally people confuse you with vagaBond 007.  Then we have you, the wench, last and certainly least. Go be useful and grab someone a beer. I'm just kidding. What I need from you, after you're through reading about these picks, is to save up your beer-wenching tips, and go to school. Get yourself an education. Leave that girl everyone called a wench as an idea of your past. Boldly go where few wenches have gone before, on to success. But first, I hope you all enjoy reading about baseball!

May Today (19th), 2017 Picks:

Brewers (Espino) vs Cubs (Butler)

The Brewers are having a 30 year old pitcher making his Major League debut at Wrigley Field against the Cubs. Call me crazy but I don’t think it will work out well for him today.

Pick: Cubs

Blue Jays (Sanchez) vs Orioles (Tillman)

It seems to me that everyone in the American League East is bickering with another team. These teams have two of the biggest instigators in many Machado and Jose Bautista. Now that they play each other I am hoping for more fireworks, but alas it probably will not happen. As far as the game itself, I think Tillman will pitch well and the Orioles will get the win.

Pick: Orioles

Phillies (Hellickson) vs Pirates (Williams)

The Phillies have to be happy that Texas is seeing Philadelphia in their rearview mirror. After looking lost the last three games the Phillies open up a series against their Pennsylvania counterparts. The fact that they are throwing their ace helps them too. I think the Phillies take game one of the series against the Pirates, and Hellickson gets the win.

Pick: Phillies

Rangers (Martinez) vs Tigers (Norris)

The Texas Rangers are finally playing a decent baseball team. After beating up on the dregs of baseball the last nine games, the Rangers go to Detroit to play a Tigers team that is at least competent. The Tigers will be without both Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez tonight however. Sometimes it really is better to be lucky than good.

Pick: Rangers

Rockies (Anderson) vs Reds (Bonilla)

Raise your hand if you thought the Colorado Rockies would have the best ROAD record six weeks into the season. I know I didn’t. I knew this team could play well at home, but what they are doing on the road is really impressive. I think that continues today and the Rockies win again.

Pick: Rockies

Angels (Nolasco) vs Mets (DeGrom)

Angels have won four in a row. Mets have lost six in a row. So why am I going with the Mets in this one? Because of Jacob DeGrom. DeGrom will silence the Angels bats and will finally get the Mets a win after an 0-6 road trip.

Pick: Mets

Yankees (Severino) vs Rays (Ramirez)

Erasmo Ramirez against that Yankees lineup? I don’t care that the Rays are playing well and the Yankees offense didn’t do diddly-poo yesterday. I will take the Yankees to get back on the right side and put a few across on Ramirez today.

Pick: Yankees

Nationals (Gonzalez) vs Braves (Dickey)

The Nationals are 18-4 against the Braves in their last 22 games. That plus Freddie Freeman being injured is reason enough for me to pick the Nationals to get the win today.

Pick: Nationals

Royals (Karns) vs Twins (Santiago)

Hector Santiago is pitching well and I still don’t trust the Royals offense. The Twins are leading the American League Central almost two months into the season. I definitely didn’t see that coming. I don’t think they will hold it but they are building for the future. This is a team that could be reckoned with in a couple years. Today they will get the win against Karns and the Royals.

Pick: Twins

Indians (Bauer) vs Astros (Morton)

After a 6-1 road trip the Astros are a Major League best 29-12. Now they get to face Trevor Bauer and the slumping Indians. I want to have faith in Trevor Bauer. He is so talented and every once in a while he will spin a gem. But he is too inconsistent for my liking. You never know what you are going to get. I like the Astros in this one.

Pick: Astros

Giants (Moore) vs Cardinals (Wacha)

The only loss the Giants have had the last week was to Clayton Kershaw. Since everyone loses to Clayton Kershaw, that is forgivable. Now we will see if the Giants can continue their success on the road. I think they will. I like the way they have been playing the last week, and I think they will get the win today against Wacha and the Cardinals.

Pick: Giants

Red Sox (Sale) vs Athletics (Graveman)

Chris Sale against that lineup. If he has under 10 strikeouts I will be surprised. Boston rolls.

Pick: Red Sox

White Sox (Quintana) vs Mariners (Miranda)

A Mariners pitcher I have heard of! Although after the last two night, let’s keep throwing those no name guys up there! I don’t like the Mariners chances in this one as Jose Quintana usually shuts them down. In seven starts against them he averages more than a strikeout per inning. He will do more of tha today and the White Sox will even up this series at a game apiece.

Pick: White Sox

Marlins (Nicolino) vs Dodgers (Wood)

I was wrong on Edison Volquez last night. I really thought it would be his day! Today I have a dilemma. The Marlins are already playing for next year it seems like but they have a left hander on the mound. I think the Dodgers futility against southpaws will be their undoing today and Miami will finally get a win.

Pick: Marlins

Diamondbacks (Walker) vs Padres (Weaver)

These two have already faced off once this year. It went to Walker and the D-backs. I see no reason why this will be any different.

Pick: Diamondbacks
