MLB Pick'Em 04/07
Welcome amigos y amigas a las predicciones de beisbol de las Grandes Ligas 2017! Por Favor, lo siento. No se lo que sabes vino. Hablare de nuevo ingles.
We started out yesterday zero y cinco before going siete y zero! Huzzah! If we hadn't turned it around, that would have been two days below .500--and that guano don't flap its leathery bug-wings around here.
As we start out on our new +.500 streak of one day, I encourage you to value these picks for all your degenerate needs.

April Today (7th), 2017 Picks:
Braves (Foltynewicz) vs Pirates (Nova)
Ivan Nova was sneaky good last year when he got traded from the Yankees to the Pirates. He did the same thing J.A Happ did the year before, gain a pitching coach who knows his ass from a damn hole in the ground. The Pirates have a very good pitching coach, as indicated already, and with a full off season to work together, Nova will likely enjoy spoils only known to the owner of the Goose who lays golden eggs. I like Foltynewicz quite a bit, so I think this will be a low scoring affair, but the Pirates win when all’s said and done.
Red Sox (Wright) vs Tigers (Fulmer)
Michael Fulmer came out of nowhere last year to win the American League Rookie of the Year. He isn’t sneaking up on anyone this year. I am not sold on Steven Wright, when Price comes back I expect Wright to move to the bullpen.
Nationals (Scherzer) vs Phillies (Velasquez)
If Scherzer is healthy the Nationals win easy. If Scherzer isn’t healthy, I think the Nationals win anyways.
Dodgers (Ryu) vs Rockies (Freeland)
This Dodgers offense is killing it right now and there ain't no time like the present (aka, "now") to face a rookie-bitch at Coors Field. Sign me up!
Giants (Cain) vs Padres (Perdomo)
It wasn’t that long ago that Matt Cain was in the Cy Young conversation. Now he is the #5 starter for the Giants and people (including myself) are wondering if he has anything left in the tank. I don’t actually think he has that much, so I am rolling with the Padres in this one.
Yankees (Severino) vs Orioles (Jimenez)
Luis Severino is a lame-duck pitching prospect for the Yankees we've all been hearing about for a long time. He came up last year and had mixed results (he ate shit). The stuff is definitely there, so we will see if he has the make-up to be successful. I bet Severino had an offseason makeover, forced or not, when his sister's friends had a sleepover. Therefore I think his make-up will be better than Jimenez's make-up. I say the Yankees put a feather in their cap today and call it macaroni.
Marlins (Chen) vs Mets (Wheeler)
A Zack Wheeler sighting!!! Yet another of the Mets pitching studs who had shoulder problems. He hasn’t pitched in a game since 2014, when this was a thing:
I'm not saying this picture had anything to do with his shoulder injuries, all I'm asking you to do is open your damn mind and accept the possibilities. I think Wheeler will have a very tight leash on this one, and that selfie sticks will be banned temporarily today. Wheeler won't last long and the Marlins will take advantage.
Blue Jays (Liriano) vs Rays (Andriese)
Fransisco Liriano is who he is, a man with a heart and the arm of a cannon. A pitcher who will throw a gem occasionally, but then accidentally sink a Surveyor-class naval ship the next day. Andriese is a 27-year-old pitcher who I didn’t even know pitched in over 50 games for the Rays last year. So he's right about league average as well. Since the pitching match-up is a wash give me the better offense. That, mis amigos y amigas, is the Blue Jays.
Pick: Blue Jays
Athletics (Alcantrara) vs Rangers (Griffin)
A.J Griffin sat out 2 years before pitching in 2016 for the Rangers and posting an ERA over 5.00. Yet, I am still picking him and the Rangers to get their first win of the year, because no one other than Khris Davis scares me in this Athletics line-up. (Bonus note: What the hell is an "Alcantrara" and why should I believe it can pitch?)
Twins (Hughes) vs White Sox (Holland)
The surprise team of the first few days are the Minnesota Twins. They swept the Royals and barely broke a sweat doing it (cold blooded). Now, I don’t think the Royals are all that good, but a sweep es a sweep. Can they keep winning against a team they were expected to fight for the honor of a 4th place finish this year? Sure, why not. I think the Twins stay on their 162-0 pace and get the win here.
Cubs (Anderson) vs Brewers (Nelson)
On Paper this is as an absolute mismatch. I know games aren’t played on paper, but I'm still picking the Cubs to win comfortably. I know they won’t go undefeated against the Brewers this year, but something like a 14-5 record wouldn’t surprise me at all. The Cubs are that good and the Brewers are that bad.
Royals (Vargas) vs Astros (Fiers)
If the Twins are the biggest surprise of 2017, so far the Royals have to be one of the biggest disappointments. No one expected them to win the World Series again, but they have looked horrendous so far, and not just one player, but the whole collective unit. The Astros just took three of four from the Mariners (which they always do) but I think Vargas works his changeup well here and the Royals are off the schneid in 2017.
Reds (Garrett) vs Cardinals (Leake)
Pitching edge? Cardinals. Hitting edge? Cardinals. Game? Cardinals
Indians (Tomlin) vs Diamondbacks (Miller)
It is time for the Shelby Miller redemption train everyone! We got plenty of room on the bandwagon for all, man and woman, boy and girl alike! I think Miller bounces back in a big way this year, and becomes an above-average major league pitcher again. He starts his journey back to respectability tonight.
Mariners (Gallardo) vs Angels (Chavez)
Now that the Mariners have left Houston they can get back to actually hitting the ball. Unfortunately, for them their bullpen is taxed and they are turning to Yovani Gallardo, who stunk last year and was somehow even worse this spring. I expect a lot of runs in this game, and a lot of them will be for the Angels. Fuck Mike Trout.
