April Today (12th), 2017 Picks:

Rays (Snell) vs Yankees (Montgomery)

Blake Snell gets an easier opponent than his last start as the Yankees rugrats pale in comparison to the Blue Jays he saw his first go-around.  Snell will take advantage and ring the winning bell.
Pick: Rays

Twins (Gibson) vs Tigers (Fulmer)

Tigers have the better offense and the better starting pitching in this game.  The Twins were the feel good story of week one, but they will start a steady and reliable decline with their first losing streak of the season today.
Pick: Tigers

Padres (Lee) vs Rockies (Freeland)

After yesterday’s pitching duel at Coors Field, I don’t really know what to expect today.  Given that I think the Rockies are the better team I will go with them to win, but I am not confident about it at all. If only there were some advanced metrics or stats I could reference.
Pick: Rockies

Cardinals (Leake) vs Nationals (Scherzer)

In his past start, Max Scherzer, ace-extraordinaire, looked like he was suffering no ill effects from his injury this spring.  He keeps the train rolling, striking out at least 18 batters, and the Nationals take the series.
Pick: Nationals

White Sox (Holland) vs Indians (Salazar)

Francisco Lindor is quickly becoming my favorite player in the game.  He is damn fun to watch and he is mighty talented.  He’ll step into the batters box and hit another home run today.  It will prompt a flurry of high-fives and butt slaps from his grateful teammates.
Pick: Indians

Mets (Wheeler) vs Phillies (Velasquez)

I still think Wheeler will be on a short leash today.  It’s the MLB equivalent of the cone of shame.  Just can’t trust that injury-prone dog to leave well-enough alone.  I think the Phillies make him work and get him out of the game early.  Once the game gets to the bullpen, the Phillies have the advantage in my opinion, and that’s where they will take it home.
Pick: Phillies

Reds (Garrett) vs Pirates (Nova)

The pitching coach for the Pirates continues to work wonders with mid-season acquisitions.  Ivan Nova followed up a strong spring with a great first start.  I am buying Nova stock and think it continues today with a victory over the Reds.
Pick: Pirates

Brewers (Anderson) vs Blue Jays (Stroman)

With the way Marcus Stroman has pitched the last few months, I would pick very few pitchers to beat him.  Chase Anderson is definitely not one of the pitchers on that short list.  Blue Jays and Stroman makes it look easy again today.
Pick: Blue Jays

Orioles (Jiminez) vs Red Sox (Wright)

I have very little confidence in both of these starting pitchers at the moment.  I like both offenses, even with half the Red Sox battling the flu. Final score in this game. 9-7.  The healthy team wins.
Pick: Orioles

Braves (Garcia) vs Marlins (Koehler)

Bartolo Colon made me look foolish yesterday.  Talked him up and he threw that clunker of a game.  Now today we have another cast-off in Jaime Garcia going for the Braves.  While I think he still has something left in the tank, I am going for him to lose this one to Koehler and the Marlins.  The big hit will come from J.T Realmuto, who is lighting the world on fire right now.
Pick: Marlins

Dodgers (McCarthy) vs Cubs (Lackey)

It is a matchup of washed up pitchers! I have made my thoughts on Lackey well known, and I don’t have a much higher opinion of Brandon McCarthy.  This game will come down to the offenses and bullpens for me, and I like the Cubs just a little bit better in both.  That is why they win this game and the series.
Pick: Cubs

Athletics (Triggs) vs Royals (Hammel)

Maybe everyone General Manager was on to something when they didn’t want to sign Jason Hammel this off-season.  He sure did not look good in his first start in a Royals uniform.  I thought he had something left in the tank but I might be wrong.  I am picking the Athletics in this one and for me to start picking Hammel he needs to show me something here.
Pick: Athletics

Rangers (Griffin) vs Angels (Chavez)

The Angels have come back from 3+ runs in the ninth inning in two of the last three games.  I don’t know if that has ever happened before.  This seems to be a team of early season destiny and I am hopping on the train.
Pick: Angels

Astros (Fiers) vs Mariners (Gallardo)

The curse continues! I can’t remember the last time I was at a game the Mariners won.  Alas I will not be there today and I was pleasantly surprised about Yovanni Gallardo’s first start.  I went with the Astros the first two games of the series.  Give me the Mariners in this one.
Pick: Mariners

Diamondbacks (Miller) vs Giants (Cain)

How about Shelby Miller in his last start!  Okay he didn’t pitch great, but he got the win and looked like an actual Major League pitcher.  I still think I am the only one on the Miller bandwagon train right now, but I think he picks up his second win of the season today against Cain and the Giants.
Pick: Diamondbacks
