MLB Pick'Em 04/02

Welcome to MLB Pick'Em 2017! We'll be making daily picks for your varied interests. The picks might include neat stats or they'll come straight from the gut. Regardless of their incarnation, what you can rely on is our blind faith in ourselves.

Yankees (Tanaka) vs Rays (Archer)
Time: 10:00am (PT)

I think that Chris Archer bounces back in a big way this year.  He struggled mightily in April last year and he never regained his footing from a magnificent 2015 campaign.  So far this spring, he has 17 strikeouts in 13.2 innings, walking only 4 batters. Masahiro Tanaka has been better this spring, posting a 0.28 era in 23 innings that saw him record 28 strikeouts while only walking 5 batters. However, I think Archer starts off on the right foot this year and the Rays get the opening day win.
Pick: Rays

Giants (Bumgarner) vs Diamondbacks (Greinke)
Time: 1:00pm (PT)

Zack Greinke sucked last year.  There is no sugar coating it, he was flat out abysmal.  Madison Bumgarner, meanwhile, did what he always does—pitch a lot of innings and do it well.  The Giants are a team that many people are picking to do some damage this year, and while it is not an “even year,” I’m on the bandwagon.  They’ll begin the season by beating the Diamondbacks.
Pick: Giants

Cubs (Lester) vs Cardinals (Martinez)
Time: 5:30pm

Ladies and Gentleman your 2016 World Series Champion Chicago Cubs!!  It still feels weird to type that but this is a team that was built the right way and is built to compete for a long while.  Throw in the mathematically-proven facts that Lester is lights out on opening day, usually pitches well against the Cardinals, and recently stumbled upon a 4-leaf clover, and you got a Cubbies victory to start the season.
Pick: Cubs

Monthly Record: 0-0(It’s opening day!)

Yearly Record: 0-0 (It’s opening day!)
